Just Friends and Lovers have this wonderfull record out by tomorrow!

it is called What, Colour?, holds the catalogue number fett032 and consists of 13 warm songs. these are the hard facts. some other hard facts are that the album was recorded by their very good friend Turbo, the person behind Wilhelm Show Me The Major Label. he has his  own studio called Ladida in Graz where he is now recording a bunch of records (besides for his Wilhelm Label). it was mastered by another friend of theirs – Philipp Forthuber (of Crystal Soda Cream and Beach Girls and The Monster) and the artwork was made by Theresa Adamski, Lina’sex bandmember (both were in Lady Lynch).

(propaganda video number 7 made by Nick Prokesch)

as for Just Friends and Lovers: i introduced you to the wonderfull trio when i was putting out their 7″ This Tune in June 2012. you can read our romantic story here.

i heard some, if not most songs from the What, Colour? record during the combined tour with Plaided in November 2012. i loved them so much (the songs) that i looked so so forward to a recorded album with all of them on it! the recording process is well documented on a blog page called “a dinosaur egg of an album“.

you know, Plaided did not only share release show stages and two tours with them, but also did this song switcharou thing: first Just Friends and Lovers where intvited to pour their voices onto the song “boundaries” on the Playdate album, and now Julia and Veronika were let into Ladida studios to sing and do additonal drum beats to the song “bad“. oh and it was when they were together in Zagreb where the idea to another song was born:

it is their first musicvideo to the record, again – made by their art director Theresa Adamski.

i am looking forward to tomorrows release show at the fluc, after that the band is going on tour:

and here’s the flyer for the show tomorrow in vienna. thank you!

huha! this was meant to get out to you earlier. but kids, it is also nice trying to remember things, and colour them 2 months later.

the Plaided / Just Friends and Lovers tour took place from November 23rd to November 30, 2012.

November 23rd, Wels Youki (Alter Schlachthof)

do you remember? the last thing told? it was about Matthias and me doing prices at the Youki 14. Plaided, the Jafalos and me met November 23rd in Wels at the Youki. Veronika still ill, me exhausted from recreating the prices the night before, and Just Friends and Lovers finding themselves on a soup diet. Plaided had to rehearse with me before the show, which meant no soundcheck for Dust Covered Carpet and Just Friends and Lovers. a very stressfull start, indeed.

JFaL looked so good on stage, i couldnt believe it  and the set we did with Plaided was a sucess in the end as well. Turbo / Wilhelm Show Me the Major Label and me did some disc jockeing after the shows were done, which was cool until my headache became unbearable (i had to leave the wonderfull schlachthof quite early…)

November 24th, 2012, Kapu Linz

very ironic: there was a Fettkakao labelshowcase in Linz the next day, but without me – since i had to be at the Youki for the last day when the prices were hand over to the winners of the international youth film festival (which was wonderful). Plaided did their set as a three piece that evening (Clemens was w/ us for doing feedback!) both bands claimed that they had a great time. the gang was overwhelmed by the kindness of the soundperson and the other nice people at the kapu.

November 26h, 2012, Schokoladen, Berlin

the travelparty (consisting of Just Friends and Lovers, Turbo and Plaided) picked me up in Wels. it felt good to be picked up high noon on a sunday for a – as it turned out – easy ride to Berlin with the best destination for the evening ever: to go to that unpronouncable vegan pizza place. i stressed the gang by getting there in time – it was my only wish for Berlin (the last time i was there w/ Mile Me Deaf and A Thousand Fuegos – the pizzeria was closed). we made it. and in the end every one was thankful for my behaviour: being super satisfied with the big selections of pizza avalable there.

Berlin was nice. our host and fettkakao friend in law – Flo  – took good care of us (at least the Plaideds). here: hanging out at Karstadt again – Clemens, Veronika, Julia and Flo.

La Moustache and M:Soundtrack were setting up the show on Monday. i enjoyed myself a lot on stage and everywhere else that evening. Berlin feels like home, i have to admit, even though i am always bitchin’ about that city.

here, on the day leaving to Bremen: Lena, Vero and Lina waiting for the others and posing for me.

(Vero knitting that great hat…)

November 28th, Bunker, Bremen.

we didnt see much of Bremen. the car drive was longer than expected. but i remember as we drived into the city that Bremen has a lot of beautiful buildings (and streetcars) (you know, i love streetcars). the show took place at the Bunker . which really is a bunker from the 2nd worldwar, that has a house on top built on it in a caravan shape. we were sleeping at the very top of it which looked like a half pipe from the inside. weird. i liked beeing there. wherever we landed on that tour, the shows made sense. it was like sharing your best goods with people who understand and want that share. Bremen was really nice.

November 29th, Waggon Im Kulturkreis, Offenbach

again a longer drive than expected to Offenbach. we were landing in that city close to Frankfurt (i love driving by its skyline) finding ourselves in a very small venue – which is next to the Main in a rail car! Just Friends and Lovers have been there (as well as at the bunker) before, telling us how special that place is. and indeed, it was. i can only hope to get there again in summer; i believe hanging out there in the summer warmth must be dreamy.

faces in front of the Waggon the next day. but i dont remember what the code for hitting your own head was..

November 30, Denmal, Salzburg

after hitting our heads we drove back to austria. Vero of JFaL finished the hat on the way to Salzburg (we are still planning to put some in the shop in the near future). also on the way home: drawing different things or people. here. a drawing i did of Lina.

who is scribbeling parts of this into the guestbook of the van:

in Salzburg, the last day of the tour, we were waiting, eating pizza and playing. i was sad that it had to end. i tell you. i loved touring with the gang.

so that is why here’s another picture of Plaided/ Just Friends and Lovers on the Denkmal Couch.

___________

thank you all for letting us stay in a hotel, on your or your friends couches and beds; thank you to Lina’s parents for letting uns stay at their big house with their sweet cat and the good food served to us. we drove 2435 km in approx 24hours (pure traveltime). it was a pleasure and success.

Just Friends and Lovers will present their 7″ “This Tune” on friday. that is in 2 days. i told the story of how i met Lina; but not long after, Wilhelm Show Me The Major Label chef, Turbo,  sent me the muxtape page from the JFaLos. i imidatly booked them for a show at the Dreiraum at the Arena, falling in love with their music.

the sad thing is – when the show finally happened i was in Luzern. yes that beautiful city in Switzerland. i also missed their show at the wilhelmine festival the following november – so my first time with Just Friends and Lovers was in december 2011, when they opened for High Places at the B72.

i had the tape already, and listened to the songs on my ipod constantly. but seeing them live was something different.i asked them as they came off the stage if they wanted to do a 7″ with fettkakao. the answer was yes, and i was a little bit ashamed of  my impentuous behavior.

we met twice, the second time in Graz (when Plaided recorded their album w/ Wolfgang Möstl) – where we went for a walk and took some pictures. i still have not developed the analogue ones, but this is one of the pics that came out of my ipod.

(lina, veronika, lena)

the weekend in Graz was really nice. Plaided recorded a masterpiece w/ Wolfgang; Just Friends and Lovers came by to sing along to the Plaided song boundary; we then watched Terminator 2 and had some good salad. i was also informed that great artist Theresa Adamski will be doing the cover for them again, and is their art director in general – now the video thing is in her (good) hands too. Theresa is playing in bands such as Crystal Soda Cream and Beach Girls and the Monter. she was in the band Lady Lynch with Lina before.

the cover which JFaL,Valerie and me screenprinted last week, looks like this (thanks to Matthias /A Thousand Fuegos again for the light).

yes. two different colors. i was talked into this by Lena and i am glad she did that talking as the red ones turned out so beautiful.

now the 7″  will be presented this friday at the Rhiz – where Just Friends and Lovers share the night with Plaided, who are presenting their LP / CD that evening as well. the two bands like being together- they have been on a croatia/ slovenia tour last may.

you have the chance to listen to their 7″ digitally here already:

thank you. hope to see you on friday, if you live in vienna!

here’s the flyer to their release show in vienna.

and here’s the flyer to their release show in graz.

remember when i started this blog? this was only last year! i cant believe it. feels like if been typing in this wordpress blog not too often, but for ages. and yes. it is a good feeling since i always think to myself –whoa another year past by already?

blah.

the pop quiz thingie happenend at the wonderfull club d’hommage, our favorite indie club in vienna. the part i like most is putting together a team and do all the fun stuff. preparing, posing… things like that.

(pic taken by john, thank you!)

we were almost nine people. kids: nine is the new magic number! not eight. at least when it comes to social catherings. this years TM fettkakao consisted of (f.l.t.r): matthias (a thousand fuegos) marti farti (wilhelm show me the major label, goldsoundz.. ) clemens (black fox tropikal), äh (me), martin pieper (brooke’s bedroom), valerie (team fettkakao!) and patrick (the mighty crazy bitch).

a wonderfull team. and i know we would have been #1 if melanie and cordula werent cancelling last minute, hihi.

the questions? the answers? dont know. those heads are big and i knew right away that we are doing good. hey. i like my friends a lot, not because they know so much (or dont), but it fills me with pride and joy sitting right next to them listening to words i cannot fully comprehend.

we were ex aequo with rudi (number two or three), who was his very own team. unbeliveable. i was so impressed by rudi that i forgot the winning teams name. a big team by the way and formerly known as sacrifice the liver, who are always #1!

(rudi and me w/goodie bags. yellow vs green, picture taken by valerie)

we werent the best? fok eat, who cares ❤

(picture taken by valerie)

thanks clubdhommage and all the people around. we love you pop quiz!

you may have noticed that the Goldsoundz are releasing a 7″ on yours truly: fettkakao. the band arose out of Wilhelm Show Me the Major Label – their homebase in Graz, Austria. when marti asked me if i wanted to release a single two years ago, i wasnt quite sure. things needed to grow between us, like with any good relationship. a lot of good things have happened since then, and we all became friends.

the Goldsoundz are presenting their masterpiece, a three song seven inch today at the nachtasyl in vienna. on thursday, the day before the show, things came together: we received the 7″es from bieber and christian/ Flight 13 Duplication just in time (i am so happy and love them for the fact that they are never late, in fact : both do everything they can to make a release show happen with the actual record), matthias (A Thousand Fuegos) took time to enlighten the screen (i know how busy you are at the moment. thank you!) – so that the Goldsoundz and fettkakao party could do the rest: cut paper, screenprint colours onto paper, fold it and put the rocords together.

here’s how the finished print (artwork created by the great Werner Bauer)  looks like:

and since prining is fun – marti farti tried to ducument it w/ some pictures he took from our little party with beer, chocolate and acryl paint.  oh. for the release shows we printed some covers with mixed colours as well. very rare… äh. here are martis pictures anyway.

ah and yes, the shows:

°nachtasyl, vienna march 16th (friday)

°waakum, graz march 21st (wednesday)

bleep. and every little release has a propaganda video (fkkp2, made by nick prokesch + andi dvorak):

and a real video! made by the Goldsoundz and turbo of WSMTML fame!

lalalala… hope to see you here today (early show: starts at 8pm and ends at 10pm!)
