Milemarker are touring with their current record Overseas, playing a show October 11th, 2016 at the Rhiz. They have also just re-released their album Frigid Forms Sell with its iconic cover, which originally came out in 2000 on Lovitt Records.
Milemarker did Tour Europe extensively in the late 1990ies and early double O’s, visiting us in Vienna rather often. after the Band went on hiatus – follow up acts like Rah Brahs and Challenger continued with this tradition, making sure to leave a mark on us: the Viennese Band Sex Jams even named themselves after a Milemarker 7″ (the one with the Kraftwerk Cover).
(above: picture i took at their show at TÜWI, October 9, 2001)
Al Burian once did a show at the Dreiraum, Arena where i thought it would be a reading of his Book – the compiled Burn Collector – but instead it was a performance with no amplified instruments, or at least he did not use the PA. at the end, Al was handing out tape cases transformed into rattles and everyone in the room started rattling, calm and excited at the same time, until after 10 or so minutes the show fell apart.
this seemed so awkwardly spontaneous, it was one of the best experiences i had while attending a show.
(above the flyer for that show made by Burn Björn)
Goldsoundz, the Styrian Supergroup (often w/ members of Just Friends and Lovers, sometimes Mile Me Deaf but always with Marti Farti) will perform as well. after a few cassettes on Wilhelm Show Me The Major Label, two 7″ e.p.s on Fettkakao and a great full length album on KIM as well as a single with Interpretations by Voodoo Jürgens – the band is playing finally in Vienna again!
now we have done a propper sampler presentation w/ our short trip north to Germany. the travel party consisted of Just Friends and Lovers, Goldsoundz and Tirana. we did 6 shows in 7 days..
Wagenplatz, Aspern (Gänseblümchen), June 10th, 2014
we have met with the kids from Graz at the Wagenplatz near the (still under construction) Aspern Seestadt – to pack up the bus with Tirana equipment and merchandize. Just Friends and Lovers were unable to perform – Lina and Vero still in Graz trying to recover from some heavy sickness. it was a really chilli evening, with a (almost full) moon shining on us while performing. here’s a double picture Cordula Thym took of Tirana and Goldsoundz.
Leipzig, Handstand und Moral, June 11h, 2014
we met kinda early for a 8 to 9 hour bus drive at the railway station with Lina and Vero (who arrived from Graz in the morning) and the rest of the gang. it was so hot – we had to keep every window open for the trip. but the drive was less of a horror than i expected it to be.
i have never been to Leipzig before, so i was really looking forward seeing a little bit of it. we arrived at 8, did a qick load out, set up and even the sound ourselves (well, mostly veronika). i found it interesting not having a soundguy at the venue – and also very liberating. soundguys make me feel uncomfortable most of the time – thus i dont really understand why small venues need one anyway. the collective running handstand und moral have this nice community built up around them. that was the other liberating thing to me: meeting a lot of interesting people who just came out to have a nice wednesday evening – and getting introduced to us and our art through that. a wonderfull night.
Berlin, Schokoladen, June 12th, 2014
our favorite place in Berlin – not only because of its name. and its always nice to meet Dana from la moustache (i always forget to ask her for the zines she’s producing). the show was set up by la moustache and m:soundtracks. too bad we didnt meet Melissa this time. we had to start early (Schokoladen shows have to be over by 10PM) -a hard thing for summer in Berlin, where the sunset is 40 minutes later than in Vienna, which made Tirana play in a dark venue while outside the bright sun still shining. but our friend Ella came early to the show as well – asking us some questions. you can listen to her show the stories about via Berlin Community Radio. Armin Lorenz was part of the showcase, he came out that evening to DJ and hang out with us.
Kassel, June 13th/14th, 2014
our friend Tim was inside the house already when we arrived. we were looking forward to our two day stay in Kassel (our Frankfurt show was cancelled) with Tim, whom Veronika and me have met during the time he was living in Vienna. the house where the show took place is not only a venue but also a community center – if i understood it right. and it is not a youth center or mainly a students place – it is organized by workers in Kassel. Tim made us good Salad (which was brought from the Intentional Community Niederkaufungen), and an even better Risotto. the show took place in one of the rooms of that house, no stage, decent lights: perfect. Tirana had a new guest beside me and Lena: Lina (also in JFaL) was drumming on a new song for the first time with us. exciting.
the next day Tim took us to see the Hercules in Kassel and went with us to that amazing vegan fake meat place after that. later we met up with the DJ Team Tazzen (the duo did a great set the day before), who showed us the Kunsthochschule in Kassel – with it’s Joseph Beuys rocks everywhere (Documenta 7), took us for a walk to meet some racoons (!!!) and hung out with us in front of that villa. thank you Tim for a woderfull time in Kassel, and taking good care of us and our crazyness.
Augsburg, Soho Stage, June 15th, 2014
the soccer season has begun and i hate it: you cant escape overdimensional screens with boring footage shown and weird (mostly male) idiots with all sorts of flags (mostly german in germany) lurching around drunk. boring things make me mad. even more so if it is everywhere.
the show in Augsburg nonetheless was an island. the soho club posh (its almost a cliché how clean and posh things are in bavaria compared to the rest of that country) – but the people coming to the show were different, of course. i had some really nice conversations, and also the feeling people understood what we were doing. Goldsoundz was really fun to watch that night – i could see people in the audience enjoying martis styrian way.
Wien, Celeste, June 16th, 2014
a long drive home. to me it seemed longer than expected – we even left early. good that i bought some strawberries in Augsburg for the drive. fruits always have a chilli effect on me. our showcase at the Celeste was the 2nd Fettkakao Sampler release party in way. it felt really good arriving home – where your friends welcome and help you: Brooke’s Bedroom, Jasmin, Nici and Melanie hangin out with us – while we were setting up and soundchecking – this time alltogether again with the help of Jasmin; eating noodles and figuring out how to errase the minus we had from the tour. we asked for donations at the door – and thanks to everyone coming and helping us: we were able to cover our costs in the end.
the Celeste is the hippest location in Vienna at the monent it seems, but it is also very uncomplicated and a good place for shows. i’m glad Brooke’s Bedroom was part of the showcase this time again; as well as Theresa and Nici beeing the great DJs they are – also on that evening.
the sampler is out for some weeks already. it features artistes around the label – but mostly people i work with on a regular basis – or just encountered at a moment; people i find interesing, friends. as always: i try to hold on to a moment for a little longer by capturing it.
after having presented the compilation in Graz and Vienna – we are now off to a little germany tour w/ Just Friends and Lovers, Goldsoundz and Tirana.

kiddo- i havent been writing here since the A Thousand Fuegos digital release in August. i was busy with presenting output by my friends now and i am not sure if you have heard of the releases yet. at the end of a year i am trying to think and look back, even though i feel like it has been only a couple of month.
today’s the annual tweety party in Graz. and among the countless bands that are performing are my friends Goldsoundz, who have released a 7″ on fettkakao 11 days ago. it is called The New Ones? / National Eagles (fett034) and consists of 3 songs.
on the cover: ex-and cofounding member Karli:
Marti was chasing his friends around in Vienna and Graz – yet even on the country side. always with a camera in his hands – the video to the song The New Ones? was made.
____Crazy Bitch In A Cave_______ Rear – View Mirror_______ (fett033)____
earlier this year, in November, Crazy Bitch In A Cave had his very first fettkakao release out. finally. CBC has a tradition with fettkakao: he was producing the Albino Rabbits 7″ by Brooke’s Bedroom, did a BB cover for the Fettkakao Sampler 2011, was with us on the trip to Košice in 2010, and performing at this years fettkakao homepage launch party as well as at the labelshowcase at Röda in Steyr.
Crazy Bitch In A Cave has a very nice homelabel though: Comfortzone. it is run by the fabulous Christina Nemec who has released a 12″ e.p. (on top – sooo good!) – and an album.
so for the little excursion to fettkakao we did a 7″ –> Rear-View Mirror – with run of 200 copies. a few came in white vinyl even (still have a few lying around – let me know if you want one).
Nick also did an amazing commercial for the album. it is all eyes, make-up and a rear-view mirror:
2013 was a good, a very good year even.
i am going backwards. before the Crazy Bitch In A Cave release – i had this exhibition in Oktober at the Schikaneder in Vienna, where i showed my (watercolour) flyers for the first time outside the digital world. also this fall: the label had two wonderfull showcases – one at the Bach in Vienna in November and one at the Röda in Steyr in September. i love having showcases.
at the beginning of September the homepage finally got a new face after 8 years. thank you so much nici ( ❤ ) in case you havent seen it yet: clickie!
in August we finally did the digital release of the selftiteled A Thousand Fuegos LP (fett010).
Plaided had their last travels and shows in summer as well. a nice good bye with a loong drive to Switzerland and the Poolbar festival. a hello to the Café Else in Vienna, where Plaided did their last show for the opening of that wonderfull bar. i have really good memories of Plaided – performing at the Donauinselfest, Akademie der Bildenden Künste Sommerfest and Popfest in vienna that summer as well. oh i miss that constilation so much.
and what a year it had been for Tirana. a 7″ called Talea (fett031) came out – named after the La Banda movie – where Veronika wrote most of the soundtrack. i have good memories of shows after screenings and premieres of the film in theaters; and the first screening of Talea at Kino Unter Sternen in Vienna. what a wonderfull summer.
the only Longplayer this year that came out was the album What, Colour? (fett032) by Just Friends and Lovers. a little beauty that counts 13 (!) songs. the only trip i had with JFaL this year was to Krakow in June (i wish i was with them on the east european tour they did in Oktober w/Robotra). the other times i had seen them was in Vienna and Graz (do i remember it well? was the Lendwirbel showcase Fettkakao shared with Numavi records their release show as well?!) (but that was a hell of a weekend!).
Just Friends and Lovers, Turbo and part time host Marti in Krakow.
and then the year 2013 ends (or begins) with the exciting, 2nd Plaided trip tp the US – with shows in Boston and NYC (w/ Japanter) and a very hot spring in Austin, TX at the SXSW festival in March (wordpress entry on thaaat), and before that a really nice fly-over to the Damnably showcase in London in Febuary.
i hope 2014 will bring as much excursions, releases and parties as in 2013. it has a good start though – with a little travel to Groningens Eurosonic – where Tirana will perform, and a 7″ by Just Friends and Lovers in Febuary…
a happy new year to you folks – and i try to keep up with the talk here – on the wordpress blah-blog.
fett031 Tirana – Talea 7″ /DI (2013)
fett032 Just Friends and Lovers – What, Colour? LP /DI (2013)
fett033 Crazy Bitch In A Cave – Rear-View Mirror 7″ /DI (2013)
fett034 Goldsoundz – The New Ones? / National Eagles 7″ /DI (2013)
fett010 A Thousand Fueogs – A Thousand Fuegos DIGITAL (2008 LP/ 2013 Digital)
Just Friends and Lovers have this wonderfull record out by tomorrow!
it is called What, Colour?, holds the catalogue number fett032 and consists of 13 warm songs. these are the hard facts. some other hard facts are that the album was recorded by their very good friend Turbo, the person behind Wilhelm Show Me The Major Label. he has his own studio called Ladida in Graz where he is now recording a bunch of records (besides for his Wilhelm Label). it was mastered by another friend of theirs – Philipp Forthuber (of Crystal Soda Cream and Beach Girls and The Monster) and the artwork was made by Theresa Adamski, Lina’sex bandmember (both were in Lady Lynch).
(propaganda video number 7 made by Nick Prokesch)
i heard some, if not most songs from the What, Colour? record during the combined tour with Plaided in November 2012. i loved them so much (the songs) that i looked so so forward to a recorded album with all of them on it! the recording process is well documented on a blog page called “a dinosaur egg of an album“.
you know, Plaided did not only share release show stages and two tours with them, but also did this song switcharou thing: first Just Friends and Lovers where intvited to pour their voices onto the song “boundaries” on the Playdate album, and now Julia and Veronika were let into Ladida studios to sing and do additonal drum beats to the song “bad“. oh and it was when they were together in Zagreb where the idea to another song was born:
it is their first musicvideo to the record, again – made by their art director Theresa Adamski.
i am looking forward to tomorrows release show at the fluc, after that the band is going on tour:

and here’s the flyer for the show tomorrow in vienna. thank you!
huha! this was meant to get out to you earlier. but kids, it is also nice trying to remember things, and colour them 2 months later.
the Plaided / Just Friends and Lovers tour took place from November 23rd to November 30, 2012.
November 23rd, Wels Youki (Alter Schlachthof)
do you remember? the last thing told? it was about Matthias and me doing prices at the Youki 14. Plaided, the Jafalos and me met November 23rd in Wels at the Youki. Veronika still ill, me exhausted from recreating the prices the night before, and Just Friends and Lovers finding themselves on a soup diet. Plaided had to rehearse with me before the show, which meant no soundcheck for Dust Covered Carpet and Just Friends and Lovers. a very stressfull start, indeed.
(Just Friends and Lovers, photo by Michael Straub)
JFaL looked so good on stage, i couldnt believe it and the set we did with Plaided was a sucess in the end as well. Turbo / Wilhelm Show Me the Major Label and me did some disc jockeing after the shows were done, which was cool until my headache became unbearable (i had to leave the wonderfull schlachthof quite early…)
November 24th, 2012, Kapu Linz
very ironic: there was a Fettkakao labelshowcase in Linz the next day, but without me – since i had to be at the Youki for the last day when the prices were hand over to the winners of the international youth film festival (which was wonderful). Plaided did their set as a three piece that evening (Clemens was w/ us for doing feedback!) both bands claimed that they had a great time. the gang was overwhelmed by the kindness of the soundperson and the other nice people at the kapu.
November 26h, 2012, Schokoladen, Berlin
the travelparty (consisting of Just Friends and Lovers, Turbo and Plaided) picked me up in Wels. it felt good to be picked up high noon on a sunday for a – as it turned out – easy ride to Berlin with the best destination for the evening ever: to go to that unpronouncable vegan pizza place. i stressed the gang by getting there in time – it was my only wish for Berlin (the last time i was there w/ Mile Me Deaf and A Thousand Fuegos – the pizzeria was closed). we made it. and in the end every one was thankful for my behaviour: being super satisfied with the big selections of pizza avalable there.
Berlin was nice. our host and fettkakao friend in law – Flo – took good care of us (at least the Plaideds). here: hanging out at Karstadt again – Clemens, Veronika, Julia and Flo.
La Moustache and M:Soundtrack were setting up the show on Monday. i enjoyed myself a lot on stage and everywhere else that evening. Berlin feels like home, i have to admit, even though i am always bitchin’ about that city.
here, on the day leaving to Bremen: Lena, Vero and Lina waiting for the others and posing for me.
(Vero knitting that great hat…)
November 28th, Bunker, Bremen.
we didnt see much of Bremen. the car drive was longer than expected. but i remember as we drived into the city that Bremen has a lot of beautiful buildings (and streetcars) (you know, i love streetcars). the show took place at the Bunker . which really is a bunker from the 2nd worldwar, that has a house on top built on it in a caravan shape. we were sleeping at the very top of it which looked like a half pipe from the inside. weird. i liked beeing there. wherever we landed on that tour, the shows made sense. it was like sharing your best goods with people who understand and want that share. Bremen was really nice.
November 29th, Waggon Im Kulturkreis, Offenbach
again a longer drive than expected to Offenbach. we were landing in that city close to Frankfurt (i love driving by its skyline) finding ourselves in a very small venue – which is next to the Main in a rail car! Just Friends and Lovers have been there (as well as at the bunker) before, telling us how special that place is. and indeed, it was. i can only hope to get there again in summer; i believe hanging out there in the summer warmth must be dreamy.
faces in front of the Waggon the next day. but i dont remember what the code for hitting your own head was..
November 30, Denmal, Salzburg
after hitting our heads we drove back to austria. Vero of JFaL finished the hat on the way to Salzburg (we are still planning to put some in the shop in the near future). also on the way home: drawing different things or people. here. a drawing i did of Lina.
who is scribbeling parts of this into the guestbook of the van:
in Salzburg, the last day of the tour, we were waiting, eating pizza and playing. i was sad that it had to end. i tell you. i loved touring with the gang.
so that is why here’s another picture of Plaided/ Just Friends and Lovers on the Denkmal Couch.
thank you all for letting us stay in a hotel, on your or your friends couches and beds; thank you to Lina’s parents for letting uns stay at their big house with their sweet cat and the good food served to us. we drove 2435 km in approx 24hours (pure traveltime). it was a pleasure and success.
2012-11-24 AUT– Linz, Kapu, Fettkakao Label Night
2012-11-26 GER – Berlin, Schokoladen, M:Soundtrack & La Moustache
2012-11-28 GER – Bremen, Bunker
2012-11-29 GER – Offenbach, Waggon im Kulturkreis
Just Friends and Lovers will present their 7″ “This Tune” on friday. that is in 2 days. i told the story of how i met Lina; but not long after, Wilhelm Show Me The Major Label chef, Turbo, sent me the muxtape page from the JFaLos. i imidatly booked them for a show at the Dreiraum at the Arena, falling in love with their music.
the sad thing is – when the show finally happened i was in Luzern. yes that beautiful city in Switzerland. i also missed their show at the wilhelmine festival the following november – so my first time with Just Friends and Lovers was in december 2011, when they opened for High Places at the B72.
i had the tape already, and listened to the songs on my ipod constantly. but seeing them live was something different.i asked them as they came off the stage if they wanted to do a 7″ with fettkakao. the answer was yes, and i was a little bit ashamed of my impentuous behavior.
we met twice, the second time in Graz (when Plaided recorded their album w/ Wolfgang Möstl) – where we went for a walk and took some pictures. i still have not developed the analogue ones, but this is one of the pics that came out of my ipod.
(lina, veronika, lena)
the weekend in Graz was really nice. Plaided recorded a masterpiece w/ Wolfgang; Just Friends and Lovers came by to sing along to the Plaided song boundary; we then watched Terminator 2 and had some good salad. i was also informed that great artist Theresa Adamski will be doing the cover for them again, and is their art director in general – now the video thing is in her (good) hands too. Theresa is playing in bands such as Crystal Soda Cream and Beach Girls and the Monter. she was in the band Lady Lynch with Lina before.
the cover which JFaL,Valerie and me screenprinted last week, looks like this (thanks to Matthias /A Thousand Fuegos again for the light).
yes. two different colors. i was talked into this by Lena and i am glad she did that talking as the red ones turned out so beautiful.
now the 7″ will be presented this friday at the Rhiz – where Just Friends and Lovers share the night with Plaided, who are presenting their LP / CD that evening as well. the two bands like being together- they have been on a croatia/ slovenia tour last may.
you have the chance to listen to their 7″ digitally here already:
and this is where their great tape release (split w/ moscows Love Is) is to be found:
and and. this is their official page, if you keep looking for Just Friends and Lovers:
thank you. hope to see you on friday, if you live in vienna!
here’s the flyer to their release show in vienna.
and here’s the flyer to their release show in graz.
