kiddo- i havent been writing here since the A Thousand Fuegos digital release in August. i was busy with presenting output by my friends now and i am not sure if you have heard of the releases yet. at the end of a year i am trying to think and look back, even though i feel like it has been only a couple of month.

today’s the annual tweety party in Graz. and among the countless bands that are performing are my friends Goldsoundz, who have released a 7″ on fettkakao 11 days ago. it is called The New Ones? / National Eagles (fett034) and consists of 3 songs.

on the cover: ex-and cofounding member Karli:

Marti was chasing his friends around in Vienna and Graz – yet even on the country side. always with a camera in his hands – the video to the song The New Ones? was made.

____Crazy Bitch In A Cave_______ Rear – View Mirror_______ (fett033)____

earlier this year, in November, Crazy Bitch In A Cave had his very first fettkakao release out. finally. CBC has a tradition with fettkakao: he was producing the Albino Rabbits 7″ by Brooke’s Bedroom, did a BB cover for the Fettkakao Sampler 2011, was with us on the trip to Košice in 2010, and performing at this years fettkakao homepage launch party as well as at the labelshowcase at Röda in Steyr.

Crazy Bitch In A Cave has a very nice homelabel though: Comfortzone. it is run by the fabulous Christina Nemec who has released a 12″ e.p. (on top – sooo good!) – and an album.

so for the little excursion to fettkakao we did a 7″ –> Rear-View Mirror – with run of 200 copies. a few came in white vinyl even (still have a few lying around – let me know if you want one).

Nick also did an amazing commercial for the album. it is all eyes, make-up and a rear-view mirror:

Bildschirmfoto 2013-12-30 um 15.39.35

2013 was a good, a very good year even.

i am going backwards. before the Crazy Bitch In A Cave release – i had this exhibition in Oktober at the Schikaneder in Vienna, where i showed my (watercolour) flyers for the first time outside the digital world. also this fall: the label had two wonderfull showcases – one at the Bach in Vienna in November and one at the Röda in Steyr in September. i love having showcases.

at the beginning of September  the homepage finally got a new face after 8 years. thank you so much nici ( ❤ ) in case you havent seen it yet: clickie!

in August we finally did the digital release of the selftiteled  A Thousand Fuegos LP (fett010).

Plaided had their last travels and shows in summer as well. a nice good bye with a loong drive to Switzerland and the Poolbar festival. a hello to the Café Else in Vienna, where Plaided did their last show for the opening of that wonderfull bar. i have really good memories of Plaided – performing at the Donauinselfest, Akademie der Bildenden Künste Sommerfest and Popfest in vienna that summer as well. oh i miss that constilation so much.

and what a year it had been for Tirana. a 7″ called Talea (fett031) came out – named after the La Banda movie – where Veronika wrote most of the soundtrack. i have good memories of shows after screenings and premieres of the film in theaters; and the first screening of Talea at Kino Unter Sternen in Vienna. what a wonderfull summer.

the only Longplayer this year that came out was the album What, Colour? (fett032) by Just Friends and Lovers. a little beauty that counts 13 (!) songs. the only trip i had with JFaL this year was to Krakow in June (i wish i was with them on the east european tour they did in Oktober w/Robotra).  the other times i had seen them was in Vienna and Graz (do i remember it well? was the Lendwirbel showcase Fettkakao shared with Numavi records their release show as well?!) (but that was a hell of a weekend!).

Just Friends and Lovers, Turbo and part time host Marti in Krakow.

and then the year 2013 ends (or begins) with the exciting, 2nd Plaided trip tp the US – with shows in Boston and NYC (w/ Japanter) and a very hot spring in Austin, TX at the SXSW festival in March (wordpress entry on thaaat), and before that a really nice fly-over to the Damnably showcase in London in Febuary.

i hope 2014 will bring as much excursions, releases and parties as in 2013. it has a good start though – with a little travel to Groningens Eurosonic – where Tirana will perform, and a 7″ by Just Friends and Lovers in Febuary…

a happy new year to you folks – and i try to keep up with the talk here – on the wordpress blah-blog.

fett010 A Thousand Fueogs – A Thousand Fuegos DIGITAL (2008 LP/ 2013 Digital)

i was going through my harddrive looking for some pictures during the recording session for the 2nd ATF album in 2008. i didnt find any. but i remember it pretty well. Matthias invited a lot of people over for a big choir. this was very common around that time, not to say it wasnt something special. Paper Bird even had FM4 journalists at her flat filming the recording process as the choir poured their voices over some parts of Thaumatrope (seayou, 2009).

A Thousand Fuegos had this big kinda party at his flat – people standing around everywhere; singing and metalvoicing. a very nice picture i have in mind. but the path we choose for releasing and promoting the record was different. it was wrapped in myth … or more likely around the fact that we wanted to make it a piece of art maybe, something that represents itself as this piece of vinyl – where everything was done by the artistes (with little help of others) – the music, the recording, the artwork – even the duplication of it: Matthias screenprinted those 300 covers himself . the very first 20 pieces came with a big fold out cover that had etched (!!!) inlays in it.  no CD, no digital version – just the plain LP. that was our approach at that time.

after 5 years i wanted to make this mastepiece available to more people – at least consciouss that this record exists. one that i myself havent listened to in a long time and find so much beauty in.

the timing is right. it will be released  August 3rd, 2013 – when A Thousand Fuegos is playing with Der Nino Aus Wien and the wonderfull Woods at the Flex Sommerfest in Vienna.

and if you are courious –  you can stream the Album on Bandcamp already.

Nick Prokesch, from the fettkakao propaganda departement, did this commercial for the (digital) album:

huha! this was meant to get out to you earlier. but kids, it is also nice trying to remember things, and colour them 2 months later.

the Plaided / Just Friends and Lovers tour took place from November 23rd to November 30, 2012.

November 23rd, Wels Youki (Alter Schlachthof)

do you remember? the last thing told? it was about Matthias and me doing prices at the Youki 14. Plaided, the Jafalos and me met November 23rd in Wels at the Youki. Veronika still ill, me exhausted from recreating the prices the night before, and Just Friends and Lovers finding themselves on a soup diet. Plaided had to rehearse with me before the show, which meant no soundcheck for Dust Covered Carpet and Just Friends and Lovers. a very stressfull start, indeed.

(Just Friends and Lovers, photo by Michael Straub)

JFaL looked so good on stage, i couldnt believe it  and the set we did with Plaided was a sucess in the end as well. Turbo / Wilhelm Show Me the Major Label and me did some disc jockeing after the shows were done, which was cool until my headache became unbearable (i had to leave the wonderfull schlachthof quite early…)

November 24th, 2012, Kapu Linz

very ironic: there was a Fettkakao labelshowcase in Linz the next day, but without me – since i had to be at the Youki for the last day when the prices were hand over to the winners of the international youth film festival (which was wonderful). Plaided did their set as a three piece that evening (Clemens was w/ us for doing feedback!) both bands claimed that they had a great time. the gang was overwhelmed by the kindness of the soundperson and the other nice people at the kapu.

November 26h, 2012, Schokoladen, Berlin

the travelparty (consisting of Just Friends and Lovers, Turbo and Plaided) picked me up in Wels. it felt good to be picked up high noon on a sunday for a – as it turned out – easy ride to Berlin with the best destination for the evening ever: to go to that unpronouncable vegan pizza place. i stressed the gang by getting there in time – it was my only wish for Berlin (the last time i was there w/ Mile Me Deaf and A Thousand Fuegos – the pizzeria was closed). we made it. and in the end every one was thankful for my behaviour: being super satisfied with the big selections of pizza avalable there.

Berlin was nice. our host and fettkakao friend in law – Flo  – took good care of us (at least the Plaideds). here: hanging out at Karstadt again – Clemens, Veronika, Julia and Flo.

La Moustache and M:Soundtrack were setting up the show on Monday. i enjoyed myself a lot on stage and everywhere else that evening. Berlin feels like home, i have to admit, even though i am always bitchin’ about that city.

here, on the day leaving to Bremen: Lena, Vero and Lina waiting for the others and posing for me.

(Vero knitting that great hat…)

November 28th, Bunker, Bremen.

we didnt see much of Bremen. the car drive was longer than expected. but i remember as we drived into the city that Bremen has a lot of beautiful buildings (and streetcars) (you know, i love streetcars). the show took place at the Bunker . which really is a bunker from the 2nd worldwar, that has a house on top built on it in a caravan shape. we were sleeping at the very top of it which looked like a half pipe from the inside. weird. i liked beeing there. wherever we landed on that tour, the shows made sense. it was like sharing your best goods with people who understand and want that share. Bremen was really nice.

November 29th, Waggon Im Kulturkreis, Offenbach

again a longer drive than expected to Offenbach. we were landing in that city close to Frankfurt (i love driving by its skyline) finding ourselves in a very small venue – which is next to the Main in a rail car! Just Friends and Lovers have been there (as well as at the bunker) before, telling us how special that place is. and indeed, it was. i can only hope to get there again in summer; i believe hanging out there in the summer warmth must be dreamy.

faces in front of the Waggon the next day. but i dont remember what the code for hitting your own head was..

November 30, Denmal, Salzburg

after hitting our heads we drove back to austria. Vero of JFaL finished the hat on the way to Salzburg (we are still planning to put some in the shop in the near future). also on the way home: drawing different things or people. here. a drawing i did of Lina.

who is scribbeling parts of this into the guestbook of the van:

in Salzburg, the last day of the tour, we were waiting, eating pizza and playing. i was sad that it had to end. i tell you. i loved touring with the gang.

so that is why here’s another picture of Plaided/ Just Friends and Lovers on the Denkmal Couch.

thank you all for letting us stay in a hotel, on your or your friends couches and beds; thank you to Lina’s parents for letting uns stay at their big house with their sweet cat and the good food served to us. we drove 2435 km in approx 24hours (pure traveltime). it was a pleasure and success.

tour dates:

2012-11-24 AUT– Linz, Kapu, Fettkakao Label Night
2012-11-26 GER – Berlin, Schokoladen, M:Soundtrack & La Moustache
2012-11-28 GER – Bremen, Bunker
2012-11-29 GER – Offenbach, Waggon im Kulturkreis
2012-11-30 AUT – Salzburg, Denkmal

kids. this was more than a month ago. time flies by so fast.

but there’s so much to tell. or: here are some pictures i took on the road. with words to it.

the ATF // MMD tour started in bratislava, slovakia – where i was not part of the party. my friend and coleague and number one booker helped out on that one: Bernhard from Siluh.

the next day i was picked up at noon for the ride to austrias rock n roll city innsbruck. sitting in the last row, right next to me: matthias (atf) and wolfi (mmd)–>

we had this huge bus. i think this was the most comfortable tour i have ever been part of because of that.

ibk was really nice. we have good friends there who take good care of us. thank you beate and gang. the pmk feels like home, always with a party until the bar closes.

(A Thousand Fuegos, Innsbruck, PMK)

our next stop was dresden. a long ride, where i could sleep a little. i was waking up at a gas station in shock:  the landscape was covered in snow (and me beeing only 2 weeks in europe, coming from 36° hot california, still only wearing my summer shoes a shirt and a hoodie..).

Mile Me Deaf + A Thousand Fuegos played this big party for a bar (called madness). i felt like in that Nick Cave video, at least the location looked like that.

also: taking instagram photos turn out like that in the dark:

(Mile Me Deaf, Dresden – Fortschritt)

thats why i started drawing the bands…

(A Thousand Fuegos, Dresden – Fortschritt)

we had a day off in dresden. good for buying propper shoes and other stuff to wear. the poznan show MMD / ATF were supposed to play was also cancelled (due to the fact that the venue was flodded).

so we headed straight to berlin. both bands played at the loophole – where we’ve met a lot of friends (like Crystal Soda Cream who also played that evening), hang out and enjoyed the plus day offs. thanks to flo who let us stay at his wonderfull apartement.

(trip fontaine flo + mile me deaf) ( ❤ )

matthias became pretty sick. nothing really helped – not even flolitas medical skills.

A Thousand Fuegos last show was in Karlsruhe. both bands played an epical set together. it was still too dark to take pictures w/ my i pod..  so here’s another drawing:

(A Thousand Fuegos, Karlsuhe)

this is the saddest part of the tour: bringing matthias to the railway station in ulm. he became so sick that he had to go back to vienna. this one’s saying good bye.

(ulm, bahnhof)

not too far from ulm we landed at a gas station near to a village called dornstadt. the MMD show took place in an old abandonned gas sation right next to the autobahn. these shows are for truckers and other travelers only. i took some pictures, but they did not turn out right. – here’s another drawing of Wolfgang.

(Mile Me Deaf, Dornstadt, Tanke)

we did an overnight drive from the gas station to amsterdam, where we had a nice day off. we met stefan (an old friend of the band; stefan also made the cover for the first sex jams e.p.) and went to the paradiso, watching bands and hanging out. no pictures to that. we drove to groningen the next day – Mile Me Deaf played at a club called lepel (spoon). it was a good show, but i dont remember much since i got sick right there..

our next stop was london. driving through the netherlands is always beautifull. even if you are sick like i was. i cant get enough of that v iew.

it was a hell ride to get there. everything took ages. we had a 3 hour ride on the fairy because of the stormy weather on the canal, so we arrived pretty late. MMD enjoyed themselves a lot on stage; and i think the people in the audience too, it was only me who seemed to struggle through the night.

here’s a picture of next days hiding out at  hyde park.

the way back on the canal was fast, nice – almost warm. wish that one never ended. and. i started feeling better. yuhu.

we had a way too long drive to mainz – but it was woth it since that club (schon schön) has this cafee where they sell these incredibly good vegan sandwiches.

here’s a flolita pic. he was singing for me.

(Mile Me Deaf, Schon Schön, Mainz)

good bye germany. hello switzerland! we arrived late, again. this time in zürich. the show was set up by that group mi sous l’eau – who were the nicest, really. we even got our favorite food: pasta w/ vegetables. it was so so good – wish more people were like them.

mhm. i was looking throug my pictures.. all i found is this one. flo w/ art he found at the dynamo.

last day of the tour was in winterthur at a bar / hotel called albani. a good place to end a tour at. thank you siluh and seayou for booking this beast – and everyone we have met on the road for beeing so nice to us. ❤

tour dates.

2012-10-26 AUT – Innsbruck, p.m.k

mmd tour

Just Friends and Lovers will present their 7″ “This Tune” on friday. that is in 2 days. i told the story of how i met Lina; but not long after, Wilhelm Show Me The Major Label chef, Turbo,  sent me the muxtape page from the JFaLos. i imidatly booked them for a show at the Dreiraum at the Arena, falling in love with their music.

the sad thing is – when the show finally happened i was in Luzern. yes that beautiful city in Switzerland. i also missed their show at the wilhelmine festival the following november – so my first time with Just Friends and Lovers was in december 2011, when they opened for High Places at the B72.

i had the tape already, and listened to the songs on my ipod constantly. but seeing them live was something different.i asked them as they came off the stage if they wanted to do a 7″ with fettkakao. the answer was yes, and i was a little bit ashamed of  my impentuous behavior.

we met twice, the second time in Graz (when Plaided recorded their album w/ Wolfgang Möstl) – where we went for a walk and took some pictures. i still have not developed the analogue ones, but this is one of the pics that came out of my ipod.

(lina, veronika, lena)

the weekend in Graz was really nice. Plaided recorded a masterpiece w/ Wolfgang; Just Friends and Lovers came by to sing along to the Plaided song boundary; we then watched Terminator 2 and had some good salad. i was also informed that great artist Theresa Adamski will be doing the cover for them again, and is their art director in general – now the video thing is in her (good) hands too. Theresa is playing in bands such as Crystal Soda Cream and Beach Girls and the Monter. she was in the band Lady Lynch with Lina before.

the cover which JFaL,Valerie and me screenprinted last week, looks like this (thanks to Matthias /A Thousand Fuegos again for the light).

yes. two different colors. i was talked into this by Lena and i am glad she did that talking as the red ones turned out so beautiful.

now the 7″  will be presented this friday at the Rhiz – where Just Friends and Lovers share the night with Plaided, who are presenting their LP / CD that evening as well. the two bands like being together- they have been on a croatia/ slovenia tour last may.

you have the chance to listen to their 7″ digitally here already:

and this is where their great tape release (split w/ moscows Love Is) is  to be found:

and and. this is their official page, if you keep looking for Just Friends and Lovers:

thank you. hope to see you on friday, if you live in vienna!

here’s the flyer to their release show in vienna.

and here’s the flyer to their release show in graz.

i have to admit that i am this record collector kind of guy. this (really bad) habit costs a lot of money and time but can help  with loneliness sometimes. one thing that makes a person like me happy is when you discover something new that has been floating around in this universe for so long without you – and now get the chance to (a) buy most of the backcatalouge available at once and (b) without having to spent a fortune.

i want to give back a little bit of that by offering you the current and past records released on fettkakao by the artist A Thousand Fuegos. the only ATF record sold out on fkk is the 7″ Three Gorges In A Cuckoos Egg (fett016). (you can still listen to the songs on bandcamp and buy the mp3s via, say iTunes).

i made a bundle of three records, availble from me for €30 + shipping.

here’s what the bundle consists of.

fett008 A THOUSAND FUEGOS – Like Big Black Clouds Through Burning Eyes, CD (2007)

fett010 A THOUSAND FUEGOS – A Thousand Fuegos, LP (2008)

fett026 A THOUSAND FUEGOS – The Treachery Of Things LP (2012)

plus: the A Thousand Fuegos Paper Doll  ° plus: the poster to the treachery of things.

and now a little impression on how the stuff could look like on your floor.

please write me an e-mail if you want a package like that shipped to yr place:

andi at fettkakao dot com

or click on the paypal button on the fettkakao dot com page that leads you to the paypal store. you can also just walk up to me with 30 euros waving in your hand refering to this blog entry. yup yup.

the new A Thousand Fuegos took its time. which is a wonderfull thing, almost a statement in times like these. if i remember it well it was summer 2010 when we first met to talk about the cooperation with seayou entertainment about the new ATF record. it was a stormy day; well a very hot day which turned into a stormy evening. we were driving to gasthaus schillinger, where we stuffed our bellies and signed papers.

(picture taken by veronika eberhart)

from then on matthias worked on the record. falling in love w/ constructivism. in all forms i believe, not sure though. something modern and controversial popped up in matthias head. the treachery of things is the records given name.

and it looks like that.

(cover made by matthias peyker)

it is somewhat brutal. and as i later found out a drawing of a brutalist building in vienna. the wotruba church. i had to go there. what a shame i havent been to that place before, as i love raw concrete, associated with (far out) socialist aesthetics (and this one being a church, not socialist at all).

we went there. as a team to make the very first propaganda video, a thing used for every release or move the fettkakao does from the year 2012 on. the FKKP’s are filmed by Nick and me, but mostly by Nick. this one was taken a few days after new years eve; it was a beautiful but cold day.

i had to take my little nikon with me for some black and white action.

(photos: andi dvořák)

seayou and fettkakao will present the record on april 17th at the rhiz in vienna. a place most of us love and are happy it is around. until the release show you can a) preorder a CD from seayou records,  b) stream the songs here on bandcamp  c) try to be a thousand fuegos and d) watch a video the fuego himself has created:

some say that one is a migraine with aura, other call it photoshop madness; i think its a sheer beauty. the poster to the record  is available to you if you order the CD via seayou or purchase the LP from fettkakao… or if you just rip it off the walls in yer city.

remember when i started this blog? this was only last year! i cant believe it. feels like if been typing in this wordpress blog not too often, but for ages. and yes. it is a good feeling since i always think to myself –whoa another year past by already?

the pop quiz thingie happenend at the wonderfull club d’hommage, our favorite indie club in vienna. the part i like most is putting together a team and do all the fun stuff. preparing, posing… things like that.

(pic taken by john, thank you!)

we were almost nine people. kids: nine is the new magic number! not eight. at least when it comes to social catherings. this years TM fettkakao consisted of (f.l.t.r): matthias (a thousand fuegos) marti farti (wilhelm show me the major label, goldsoundz.. ) clemens (black fox tropikal), äh (me), martin pieper (brooke’s bedroom), valerie (team fettkakao!) and patrick (the mighty crazy bitch).

a wonderfull team. and i know we would have been #1 if melanie and cordula werent cancelling last minute, hihi.

the questions? the answers? dont know. those heads are big and i knew right away that we are doing good. hey. i like my friends a lot, not because they know so much (or dont), but it fills me with pride and joy sitting right next to them listening to words i cannot fully comprehend.

we were ex aequo with rudi (number two or three), who was his very own team. unbeliveable. i was so impressed by rudi that i forgot the winning teams name. a big team by the way and formerly known as sacrifice the liver, who are always #1!

(rudi and me w/goodie bags. yellow vs green, picture taken by valerie)

we werent the best? fok eat, who cares ❤

(picture taken by valerie)

thanks clubdhommage and all the people around. we love you pop quiz!

you may have noticed that the Goldsoundz are releasing a 7″ on yours truly: fettkakao. the band arose out of Wilhelm Show Me the Major Label – their homebase in Graz, Austria. when marti asked me if i wanted to release a single two years ago, i wasnt quite sure. things needed to grow between us, like with any good relationship. a lot of good things have happened since then, and we all became friends.

the Goldsoundz are presenting their masterpiece, a three song seven inch today at the nachtasyl in vienna. on thursday, the day before the show, things came together: we received the 7″es from bieber and christian/ Flight 13 Duplication just in time (i am so happy and love them for the fact that they are never late, in fact : both do everything they can to make a release show happen with the actual record), matthias (A Thousand Fuegos) took time to enlighten the screen (i know how busy you are at the moment. thank you!) – so that the Goldsoundz and fettkakao party could do the rest: cut paper, screenprint colours onto paper, fold it and put the rocords together.

here’s how the finished print (artwork created by the great Werner Bauer)  looks like:

and since prining is fun – marti farti tried to ducument it w/ some pictures he took from our little party with beer, chocolate and acryl paint.  oh. for the release shows we printed some covers with mixed colours as well. very rare… äh. here are martis pictures anyway.

ah and yes, the shows:

°nachtasyl, vienna march 16th (friday)

°waakum, graz march 21st (wednesday)

bleep. and every little release has a propaganda video (fkkp2, made by nick prokesch + andi dvorak):

and a real video! made by the Goldsoundz and turbo of WSMTML fame!

lalalala… hope to see you here today (early show: starts at 8pm and ends at 10pm!)
