huha! this was meant to get out to you earlier. but kids, it is also nice trying to remember things, and colour them 2 months later.
the Plaided / Just Friends and Lovers tour took place from November 23rd to November 30, 2012.
November 23rd, Wels Youki (Alter Schlachthof)
do you remember? the last thing told? it was about Matthias and me doing prices at the Youki 14. Plaided, the Jafalos and me met November 23rd in Wels at the Youki. Veronika still ill, me exhausted from recreating the prices the night before, and Just Friends and Lovers finding themselves on a soup diet. Plaided had to rehearse with me before the show, which meant no soundcheck for Dust Covered Carpet and Just Friends and Lovers. a very stressfull start, indeed.

(Just Friends and Lovers, photo by Michael Straub)
JFaL looked so good on stage, i couldnt believe it and the set we did with Plaided was a sucess in the end as well. Turbo / Wilhelm Show Me the Major Label and me did some disc jockeing after the shows were done, which was cool until my headache became unbearable (i had to leave the wonderfull schlachthof quite early…)
November 24th, 2012, Kapu Linz
very ironic: there was a Fettkakao labelshowcase in Linz the next day, but without me – since i had to be at the Youki for the last day when the prices were hand over to the winners of the international youth film festival (which was wonderful). Plaided did their set as a three piece that evening (Clemens was w/ us for doing feedback!) both bands claimed that they had a great time. the gang was overwhelmed by the kindness of the soundperson and the other nice people at the kapu.
November 26h, 2012, Schokoladen, Berlin
the travelparty (consisting of Just Friends and Lovers, Turbo and Plaided) picked me up in Wels. it felt good to be picked up high noon on a sunday for a – as it turned out – easy ride to Berlin with the best destination for the evening ever: to go to that unpronouncable vegan pizza place. i stressed the gang by getting there in time – it was my only wish for Berlin (the last time i was there w/ Mile Me Deaf and A Thousand Fuegos – the pizzeria was closed). we made it. and in the end every one was thankful for my behaviour: being super satisfied with the big selections of pizza avalable there.
Berlin was nice. our host and fettkakao friend in law – Flo - took good care of us (at least the Plaideds). here: hanging out at Karstadt again – Clemens, Veronika, Julia and Flo.

La Moustache and M:Soundtrack were setting up the show on Monday. i enjoyed myself a lot on stage and everywhere else that evening. Berlin feels like home, i have to admit, even though i am always bitchin’ about that city.
here, on the day leaving to Bremen: Lena, Vero and Lina waiting for the others and posing for me.
(Vero knitting that great hat…)

November 28th, Bunker, Bremen.
we didnt see much of Bremen. the car drive was longer than expected. but i remember as we drived into the city that Bremen has a lot of beautiful buildings (and streetcars) (you know, i love streetcars). the show took place at the Bunker . which really is a bunker from the 2nd worldwar, that has a house on top built on it in a caravan shape. we were sleeping at the very top of it which looked like a half pipe from the inside. weird. i liked beeing there. wherever we landed on that tour, the shows made sense. it was like sharing your best goods with people who understand and want that share. Bremen was really nice.
November 29th, Waggon Im Kulturkreis, Offenbach
again a longer drive than expected to Offenbach. we were landing in that city close to Frankfurt (i love driving by its skyline) finding ourselves in a very small venue – which is next to the Main in a rail car! Just Friends and Lovers have been there (as well as at the bunker) before, telling us how special that place is. and indeed, it was. i can only hope to get there again in summer; i believe hanging out there in the summer warmth must be dreamy.

faces in front of the Waggon the next day. but i dont remember what the code for hitting your own head was..
November 30, Denmal, Salzburg
after hitting our heads we drove back to austria. Vero of JFaL finished the hat on the way to Salzburg (we are still planning to put some in the shop in the near future). also on the way home: drawing different things or people. here. a drawing i did of Lina.

who is scribbeling parts of this into the guestbook of the van:

in Salzburg, the last day of the tour, we were waiting, eating pizza and playing. i was sad that it had to end. i tell you. i loved touring with the gang.
so that is why here’s another picture of Plaided/ Just Friends and Lovers on the Denkmal Couch.

___________
thank you all for letting us stay in a hotel, on your or your friends couches and beds; thank you to Lina’s parents for letting uns stay at their big house with their sweet cat and the good food served to us. we drove 2435 km in approx 24hours (pure traveltime). it was a pleasure and success.

kids. this was more than a month ago. time flies by so fast.
but there’s so much to tell. or: here are some pictures i took on the road. with words to it.
the ATF // MMD tour started in bratislava, slovakia – where i was not part of the party. my friend and coleague and number one booker helped out on that one: Bernhard from Siluh.
the next day i was picked up at noon for the ride to austrias rock n roll city innsbruck. sitting in the last row, right next to me: matthias (atf) and wolfi (mmd)–>

we had this huge bus. i think this was the most comfortable tour i have ever been part of because of that.
–INNSBRUCK–
ibk was really nice. we have good friends there who take good care of us. thank you beate and gang. the pmk feels like home, always with a party until the bar closes.

(A Thousand Fuegos, Innsbruck, PMK)
our next stop was dresden. a long ride, where i could sleep a little. i was waking up at a gas station in shock: the landscape was covered in snow (and me beeing only 2 weeks in europe, coming from 36° hot california, still only wearing my summer shoes a shirt and a hoodie..).
–DRESDEN–
Mile Me Deaf + A Thousand Fuegos played this big party for a bar (called madness). i felt like in that Nick Cave video, at least the location looked like that.
also: taking instagram photos turn out like that in the dark:

(Mile Me Deaf, Dresden – Fortschritt)
thats why i started drawing the bands…
–>

(A Thousand Fuegos, Dresden – Fortschritt)
we had a day off in dresden. good for buying propper shoes and other stuff to wear. the poznan show MMD / ATF were supposed to play was also cancelled (due to the fact that the venue was flodded).
–BERLIN–
so we headed straight to berlin. both bands played at the loophole – where we’ve met a lot of friends (like Crystal Soda Cream who also played that evening), hang out and enjoyed the plus day offs. thanks to flo who let us stay at his wonderfull apartement.

(trip fontaine flo + mile me deaf) ( <3 )
matthias became pretty sick. nothing really helped – not even flolitas medical skills.

–KARLSRUHE–
A Thousand Fuegos last show was in Karlsruhe. both bands played an epical set together. it was still too dark to take pictures w/ my i pod.. so here’s another drawing:

(A Thousand Fuegos, Karlsuhe)
this is the saddest part of the tour: bringing matthias to the railway station in ulm. he became so sick that he had to go back to vienna. this one’s saying good bye.

(ulm, bahnhof)
–DORNSTADT–
not too far from ulm we landed at a gas station near to a village called dornstadt. the MMD show took place in an old abandonned gas sation right next to the autobahn. these shows are for truckers and other travelers only. i took some pictures, but they did not turn out right. – here’s another drawing of Wolfgang.

(Mile Me Deaf, Dornstadt, Tanke)
–AMSTERDAM– || –GRONINGEN–
we did an overnight drive from the gas station to amsterdam, where we had a nice day off. we met stefan (an old friend of the band; stefan also made the cover for the first sex jams e.p.) and went to the paradiso, watching bands and hanging out. no pictures to that. we drove to groningen the next day – Mile Me Deaf played at a club called lepel (spoon). it was a good show, but i dont remember much since i got sick right there..
our next stop was london. driving through the netherlands is always beautifull. even if you are sick like i was. i cant get enough of that v iew.
–LONDON–
it was a hell ride to get there. everything took ages. we had a 3 hour ride on the fairy because of the stormy weather on the canal, so we arrived pretty late. MMD enjoyed themselves a lot on stage; and i think the people in the audience too, it was only me who seemed to struggle through the night.
here’s a picture of next days hiding out at hyde park.

the way back on the canal was fast, nice – almost warm. wish that one never ended. and. i started feeling better. yuhu.

we had a way too long drive to mainz – but it was woth it since that club (schon schön) has this cafee where they sell these incredibly good vegan sandwiches.
here’s a flolita pic. he was singing for me.

(Mile Me Deaf, Schon Schön, Mainz)
good bye germany. hello switzerland! we arrived late, again. this time in zürich. the show was set up by that group mi sous l’eau - who were the nicest, really. we even got our favorite food: pasta w/ vegetables. it was so so good – wish more people were like them.
mhm. i was looking throug my pictures.. all i found is this one. flo w/ art he found at the dynamo.

last day of the tour was in winterthur at a bar / hotel called albani. a good place to end a tour at. thank you siluh and seayou for booking this beast – and everyone we have met on the road for beeing so nice to us. <3

Just Friends and Lovers will present their 7″ “This Tune” on friday. that is in 2 days. i told the story of how i met Lina; but not long after, Wilhelm Show Me The Major Label chef, Turbo, sent me the muxtape page from the JFaLos. i imidatly booked them for a show at the Dreiraum at the Arena, falling in love with their music.
the sad thing is – when the show finally happened i was in Luzern. yes that beautiful city in Switzerland. i also missed their show at the wilhelmine festival the following november – so my first time with Just Friends and Lovers was in december 2011, when they opened for High Places at the B72.
i had the tape already, and listened to the songs on my ipod constantly. but seeing them live was something different.i asked them as they came off the stage if they wanted to do a 7″ with fettkakao. the answer was yes, and i was a little bit ashamed of my impentuous behavior.
we met twice, the second time in Graz (when Plaided recorded their album w/ Wolfgang Möstl) – where we went for a walk and took some pictures. i still have not developed the analogue ones, but this is one of the pics that came out of my ipod.
(lina, veronika, lena)
the weekend in Graz was really nice. Plaided recorded a masterpiece w/ Wolfgang; Just Friends and Lovers came by to sing along to the Plaided song boundary; we then watched Terminator 2 and had some good salad. i was also informed that great artist Theresa Adamski will be doing the cover for them again, and is their art director in general – now the video thing is in her (good) hands too. Theresa is playing in bands such as Crystal Soda Cream and Beach Girls and the Monter. she was in the band Lady Lynch with Lina before.
the cover which JFaL,Valerie and me screenprinted last week, looks like this (thanks to Matthias /A Thousand Fuegos again for the light).

yes. two different colors. i was talked into this by Lena and i am glad she did that talking as the red ones turned out so beautiful.

now the 7″ will be presented this friday at the Rhiz - where Just Friends and Lovers share the night with Plaided, who are presenting their LP / CD that evening as well. the two bands like being together- they have been on a croatia/ slovenia tour last may.
you have the chance to listen to their 7″ digitally here already:
and this is where their great tape release (split w/ moscows Love Is) is to be found:
wilhelmshowmethesplittapewithloveiswillya?
and and. this is their official page, if you keep looking for Just Friends and Lovers:
thank you. hope to see you on friday, if you live in vienna!
here’s the flyer to their release show in vienna.

and here’s the flyer to their release show in graz.

I already introduced you to Wolfgang Möstls projekt last spring, when we deicided to do a 7″ together called “Swing Back To Me”. a lot of people knew Mile Me Deaf already, but were blown away by his popness. swing back to me became a summer hit, not only to me.
i was happy when Wolfgang asked me to do a full length LP with him, and inviting our friends from siluh over to do the CD version. Mile Me Deaf became more of a band thing with stealing the rhythm section from the Sex Jams gang, who call themselves the Maximum Miracle Center.
the LP – entiteled “Eat Skull” (named after a fight the band Eat Skull had on stage at the rhiz in vienna in 2011) is a pop adventure mixed with what you propably have expected from Wolfgang: i n d i e r aw k.

this is the cover, which was shot by wolfgang, who appears on the cover with lovely beate, eating cotton candy… or candy floss, and drinking beer. the record is like a celebration. something was reached.
the siluhs, the fettkakao gang and a bunch of other people were loud about MMD’s music. such as our friends johannes and horst, who did this hommage kinda video (men without hats & that actor guy, whats his name?) to “wild at heart“.
and then – then we had to think of the past. of things that are good but not properly released yet. funny that this was in the closet for so long, even though the cool kids at numavi were pushing that thing. i guess interesting stuff never gets enough attention.
here’s something free for you: a blast from da past – thebestofmilemedeafyo just click yourself to milemedeaf.com!
now we are all over this town because we made good propaganda. like this one:
tomorrow a bunch of kids will hang out at the gartenbau kino in vienna. rumors say there will be candy floss and beer to buy. but also CDs from the siluhs (props to those guys!) and Vinyl from my gang. and then. Mile Me Deaf play some with his wild monkey and snowman. and after that we will having a party till the morning light comes up. DJing and stuff.

hope to see you tomorrow kids! XO, F R E S H A I R J E T K I NG F E T T K A K AO.
hey. the video’s online! Wild At Heart is the first single to the new Mile Me Deaf album, titeled Eat Skull, that comes out June 1st on Fettkakao (vinyl, digi) and Siluh Records (CD).
the video was shot by Horst Bílek and Johannes Staudenbauer – who did the Sex Jams video to Panorama Ride in summer 2010 and the Killed By Nine Volt Batteries video to Worst Of total Anarchy last year.
Wild At Heart was filmed some weeks ago, with lots of bubbles floating around. lalala.
here are some photos Lisa Müller took on the set.
no shooting without preparing your face. make up rules.
light blue, dots, two smilies and bubbles all over.
OK. these guys directed and shot the video. here looking into the camera.
but the most important person: pinzko! turning this video into a bubble dream.
and yessss. Mile Me Deaf with his Maximum Miracle Center.
so now here’s the video to Wild At Heart. enjoy.
Kids! Daniel Johnston is coming to vienna on April 24th, 2012. this is in 2 weeks almost. and that alone is big news, as me and most of my friends here at fettkakao have always been big Daniel Johnston fans. but i guess to you dear reader, this was pretty obvious.
i was asked by Philipp, promoter of the vienna show at the arena, to put a team together. guess he knows i am good at that (at least). what an honour and then: also so fitting – because i already had the right people in mind for that. Veronika (Plaided, Tirana, Ilsebill, Girslrockcamp), Rudi (Go Die Big City!, Hidden Cameras, Vortex Rex, ATF…), Wolfi (Mile Me Deaf, KB9VB, Sex Jams, Goldsoundz) and Bernhard (B.Fleischmann, hehe) will help out Daniel Johnston at the arena on april 24th, 2012.
today i have been to one of their rehearsals, which was … so nice that i had to take some pictures. hehe.
here are the people.
Veronika
Rudi
Wolfi
Bernhard
all together <3 lalalalala.
woha.
FM4′s soundpark is celebrating its 10 year annniversary; the studio2 session round 20. and we are invited for the party!
i dont know if clemens (cool kid & curator of the studio 2 sessions) knows how much the session means – at least to me. after i started fettkakao, and ilias seayou with Go Die Big City a little bit later – it was one of the first things we did all together – with almost everyone involved who released records on either the one or the other label. early 2006 Go Die Big City shared an evening at the studio2 with Luise Pop – and there we were: matthias of A Thousand Fuegos, anna of Paper Bird, anna and rudi as the core of GDBC, ilias of Vortex Rex, me the fettkakao and stefanie. something has happened there. people have heard of us, and i think we learned about ourselves a little bit too.
one year later, 2007, A Thousand Fuegos was playing the studio 2 session (with a reduced, similar line up as GDBC –> video), 2010 Lonely Drifter Karen.
the special thing about this years FM4 soundpark studio2 session is -that there will be three sets of people/artist/ “collectives” that have been part of the soundpark sessions and/ or represent scenes where a lot of different people are involved. invited are the really cool SK Invitational from linz – who represent as a big band the well known hip hop scene not only of that city – and patrick pulsinger – an austrian all star – who was never limited to any scene or sound (patrick produced the Brooke’s Bedroom 12″ for fettkakao btw).
seayou and fettkakao was asked to present the little scene we are involved with – and to bring up some projects – which we are indeed used to, where some are helping others out – and /or create art together.
of course i dont want to spoil everything here – but it will be a rather interesting set inkluding Vortex Rex, die Eternias, 8 Hours Manatee, A Thousand Fuegos, Mile Me Deaf & the Maximum Miracle Center (huhu w/ Sex Jams members!).
all of that will be broadcasted live from 7pm on tomorrow (oktober 26th,2011) on Radio FM4, and there will even be a video stream!
if you happen to understand the german language – you can read some here and here.
oh. and i visited the bands while rehersing today… and took some pictures.
this is my friend wolfgang. he does this thing called Mile Me Deaf. i know wolfgang for quite a while already. if you are an indie / punk kid like me – there’s no way not to know him. äh. but we never really spoke much, until he joned the Sex Jams band – first only to record for – then with them - and then to be part of the wonderfull video for panorama ride.
it was pretty clear that he joins Sex Jams after that, but not too soon. because he has that other act going on for years as well: Killed By Nine Volt Batteries – that my friends at Siluh are releasing from the beginning.
Mile Me Deaf is of course a very different story. i saw them play pretty early, 2005 i think. propably at the old Siluh club at the flex cafe. i took notice, also because i am an Unwound fan – and the song MMD are named after is great. i always thought they were cool. in 2010 i booked MMD to support Antitainment at the arena. this was better than i remembered. could be that i opened up a little in the last few years. the show was him and then drummer flo – who quit because he became father. wolfgang continued the project the same way he started it: solo. the next thing i saw was a video that manager turbopete (aka flol) postet on his facebook wall. we had a little chit chat two days later and decided to do a 7″. easy as that.
the songs were recorded at wolfgangs place – where a lot of bands are recording. i guess most of his labels bands record there too (the label is called Numavi and is very sympathetic). the artwork was done by flol and wolfgang and was printed with berni’s (kelly fux) special printer machine.
the 7″ holds the catalogue number fett023.
heres what the cover looks like uncut, unfolded:
and heres wolfgang showing you what it looks like on the inside…
piep piep.
the record release show takes place at the fluc in vienna on april 14th, were Mile Me Deaf is playing with Trip Fontaine, who are currently touring with Sex Jams.
the flyer!

when i did the 5 year fest last september – Rainer Krispel asked me if there would be a compilation along to the fest. no there wasn’t one. and with a reason: i did not want to try to capture something that seemed so alive to me – alive like the fest was. 10 days w/ exhibitions + shows at different places in vienna, so many acts… so many nice people coming and sharing. i thought i had documented a lot of the music anyways – with all the 7″e.p.’s, LPs and CDs released.
some months later the idea of doing a compilation made sense though. not for a jubilee, not for showing what this label has put out so far – but the people around me, with their great ideas.
everyone contributed songs never released before (or at least not in these versions). most recorded exclusively for this piece of mini plastic. i loved how Paper Bird and Crazy Bitch In A Cave came up with the idea to cover their partners or boss song (both on the label) – or TIRANA completing a song for the compilation, Vortex Rex doing it last minute, Sex Jams going different directions for it etc.
i am really thankful to all artistes involved. for making it such a great record.
here’s what it looks like. my old friend Lisa Max did it in Perth Australia, where the summer comes to its end finally.
